Why Talk Therapy Isn’t Always Enough ~ And What Your Body Has Been Trying to Tell You

For so many women, talk therapy has been a lifeline. and I LOVE a good therapy session DO NOT GET ME WRONG 


A space to be heard. A place to process. A room where you can finally exhale.

But if you’ve ever walked out of a therapy session thinking:

“I understand myself better…
but I don’t feel any different…”

You are not alone.

Talk therapy beautifully supports the mind ,  but most emotional imprints don’t actually live there. They live inside your body.

Let’s talk about why that matters… and what your body has been waiting for you to understand.

Your Thinking Mind Is a Master Protector

When you’re talking ~ whether it’s with a therapist, a coach, or a close friend,  you’re accessing the thinking mind: otherwise known as

  • logic

  • understanding

  • narrative

  • safety

  • protection

It’s the part of you designed to keep you alive, not necessarily to help you heal.

So when you’re telling the story of “what happened,” your brain is scanning for safety.

This is safe.
This is fine.
This is manageable.
We’re okay.”

And while your mind is doing this… your body is over there holding the emotional weight of the thing you talk about.

The Body Is Where the Real Story Lives

Here’s what most women aren’t taught:

The mind remembers the story.
The body remembers the experience.

The tightening in your chest,
the knot in your stomach,
the pressure behind your throat,
the buzzing, the freeze, the bracing…

Those sensations are the unprocessed emotion your mind can quite explain, it's often that there isn't LANGUAGE for it ~ and because of that it can't be released .

This is why traditional therapy can feel like:

“I understand my patterns…
but why am I still overwhelmed, reactive, triggered, shut down, or exhausted?”

Because you’ve been working from the neck up.

And your healing lives from the neck down.

Talking Alone Creates a “Healing Gap”

If you’re only processing your story from your mind…

…but you never access the place in your body where the charge actually lives

there’s no outlet.

No completion.
No movement.
No release.
No shift.

It’s like knowing a fire is burning in the basement…
while you keep opening windows in the living room.

Insight ≠ integration.

Your body needs a way to let the energy out.

Your Body Holds What You Haven’t Had Safety to Feel

You might logically know the trauma is “over,”
but your body may still be holding:

  • the bracing

  • the collapse

  • the freeze

  • the fear

  • the grief

  • the anger

  • the unmet need

Logical memory is not the same as emotional completion.

And the body will keep holding what it never had the safety, support, or permission to express.

This Is Where Somatic Work Comes In

To heal deeply, you don’t need to “think harder.”
You need to feel safer inside your body.

This is the work of:

Somatic release breathwork
Trauma-informed breathwork
Emotional release breathwork
Embodied processing

These modalities help you access the physical imprint of old experiences ~ the energy your body has been storing, and actually give it a pathway out.

This is why women often say after a session:

“I moved more in one hour
than I have in 10 years of therapy.”

Not because therapy doesn’t work.
It absolutely does.

It’s because therapy works on the story,
and somatic work works on the storage.

You need both.

It’s therapy and breathwork.
Mind and body.
Understanding and release.

Talk therapy helps you make meaning.
Somatic work helps you make space.
